SPEAKER_00Written for the code. It's a couple of gold. That's the first. Sometimes it doesn't matter how familiar you are with the Peter. Every time I hear the third movement, I find myself saying, Oh, I love this. The work was inspired by a trip to Europe between 1829 and 1831, and it is a composition which reflects Mendelssohn's own happiness, as he made clear in a letter to his parents. And I'm loving it. Unbelievably, he wasn't all that delighted with the result, and I really can't imagine why. The third movement from Mendelssohn's fourth symphony, The Italian, is played here by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Christoph von Doctiani. Elgar then cobbled them together into an orchestration called Three Bavarian Dances. We're going to finish today by listening to the lively third, it's Elgar Through and Through, jubilant and high spirited. It's played here by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Adrian Bolt.
